Hard boiled eggs chicks

15 minutes to prepare Serves 4

10 MINUTES

Take your classic hard boiled eggs to a whole new level with these super-cute chicks.
This easy recipe uses a classic egg filling and simple ingredients to garnish your boiled eggs like baby chicks.

They aren’t just for the kids in your life. Adults love them too. The whimsy of baby chick faces poking out of a shell will bring a smile to everyone’s face and they’ll be the first things to go on your buffet.

Here are ingredients for a 4-serving recipe (2 chicks):

8 eggs
carrot
1 potato
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
black sesame seeds
salt

  1. Bring salted water to a boil
  2. Place the eggs into water, together with peeled carrot and potato. Boil for 10 minutes
  3. Once the time has passed, move eggs and vegetables to a cold bath. Then, peel the eggs
  4. With a sharp knife, slice off a very thin layer from the base of the egg, to give it a flat surface to stand on a platter. Cut off a generous top third of the egg. Squeeze around the egg base gently to loosen the yolk and it should pop right out. Keep the lids paired with their bases
  5. In a medium mixing bowl, combine cooked yolks and mash well with a fork. Add mayonnaise, 1/2 carrot, 1/2 potato and a pinch of salt, or season to taste. Mash everything together until smooth. Transfer mixture to ziploc or pastry bag and pipe generously into egg bases. Place top over the base and press down slightly to adhere
  6. For the eyes, place 2 black sesame seeds on the egg mixture. For the beaks, thinly slice a few rings of carrot and cut each ring into sixths. Insert 1 carrot wedge for the beak. For the feet, use few ring of carrots as well. Set chicks on a platter and enjoy!
