Mussels alla marinara

10 MINUTES

If you’re a mussels fan, here’s one of the best and easiest ways to prepare them: mussels alla marinara!

This Italian dish is often featured on restaurant menus. But unlike most restaurant food, it’s seriously easy to recreate at home, and the bold flavors in this mussels recipe will transport you to the South of Italy.

Mussels are simmered in a tangy marinara sauce, scented with parsley, wine and garlic. If you are particularly hungry you might serve them over some al dente bucatini pasta. Finally, it takes 10 minutes to prepare!
It works both for a romantic date night in or a fancy Italian dinner party. Ready to get started?

Here's what you will need for the 4-serving recipe:

2 cloves garlic, crushed
½ cup dry white wine
1.5 kg mussels, rinsed, scrubbed and beards removed
1 sprig fresh parsley, chopped
salt and pepper
EVO oil

      1. In a pan with lid, pour 4 tablespoons of EVO oil and add garlic cloves. When they become golden, add the mussels
      2. When the mussels start to open, pour the white wine and the fresh parsley. Cover and cook, shaking pan from time to time, until all the mussels open up. Check mussels after 2 minutes; transfer open mussels to a bowl using tongs. Cover pan again, wait another minute, and repeat until all mussels have opened
      3. Leave mussels to cool in bowl
      4. Finally top the mussels with freshly ground pepper and serve right away
