This week my sister moved in with us.
Finally, after years of long-distance relationship, we will live together again...at least for a while.
We had to celebrate it properly!!
And what better way to welcome the queen of the gluttony, our new coffee-fanatic flatmate, than with a delicious coffee-flavored custard?
The preparation is straightforward: just cook a basic custard, then enrich it with some soluble coffee to make it THE perfect stuffing cream.
This creamy custard may be employed as toothsome filling for your cakes, to enrich the taste of your desserts. You could also eat it as a pudding, serving it with some cookies aside.
Otherwise - as predictable as it is - you can just grab a spoon and empty the whole bowl. My sister gladly did.
Here's what you will need for the 4-serving recipe:
2 egg yolks
50 g flour 00
75 g sugar
125 ml milk
instant soluble coffee
- To prepare this addictive coffee-flavored cream, start from the conventional custard: place the egg yolks in a large bowl together with the sugar. Beat the mixture until stiff for about 15 minutes
- Add the milk and 3 tablespoons of instant coffee, stirring until it is completely melted. Then, little by little, add the flour - sifted - until the mixture is smooth and free of lumps
- Pour the cream in a saucepan with a thick bottom and cook over low heat, mixing with a wooden spoon to prevent it from sticking to the bottom
- As the cooking temperature reaches somewhere near boiling, turn off the heat and remove the pan from the stove, keeping on stirring
- When you obtain a smooth cream with no lumps, pour your coffee-flavored custard into a bowl and cover with plastic wrap, making sure that the film does not touch the cream.
Put everything in the refrigerator and let it cool before serving with the cake that you have prepared.
